Flashback Who's That Thursday
Donnie a singer, songwriter, arranger and Producer. Growing in the church with his famous Soul Singiing cousin Marvin Gaye. The soul singer faced some of those same demons that taunted his cousin, like singing secular music as oppose to singing for 'God' and battling sexuality conflicts that some Gospel luminaries try to confine you to. Donnie released his debut on Giant Step and eventually on Motown records The Colored Section was moderately successful. Some felt that Motown's promotional efforts on behalf of the album were halfhearted, although the song "Cloud 9" was heard in the hit film Brown Sugar, and another selection, "Our New National Anthem". But critics gave rave reviews. "Donnie's 'The Colored Section' might be the best soul record since Stevie Wonder's masterpieces [of the 1970s]," praised the Boston Globe, while People felt that Donnie "someday … may just take a place alongside his cousin ... "Marvin Gaye".

I love both of Donnie's projects. He reminds of Dnny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder.
