BET botches up tribute to the King of Pop...
Let me sent up the scenario.Flashback... Thursday June 25-2009 the King of Pop Michael Jackson passes away. The BET Awards are scheduled for Sunday June 28-2009. Things are frantic and complete chaos. The devastation is running rampant. Michael Jackson was a universal artist. Before the world welcomed him into their hearts and home, he was welcomed by African Americans, so like it or not, HE WAS OURS first. With that said, BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION, had the proper platform to honor this legend in proper form and fashion. We always talk about how 'they' never give us credit or do us JUSTICE. Watching Sunday nights ceremony, I witnessed a INJUSTICE. The Awards ceremony looked like they wee told three minutes before air time that Michael Jackson had passed on. With exception to Ne Yo, Ciara and Jamie Foxx's opening monologue, the night was complete lackluster in terms of any 'real' kind of tribute or acknowledgement. Beyonce, Jay Z, Maxwell,Keri Nilson were clearly there to promote their own projects, and ordinarily that would've been fine, if ...... exactly.
Michael Jackson paved the way for ALL of those artists. Not so long ago, when Beyonce was a member of Destiny's Child it was a honor to be asked to be a part of a tribute to Michael Jackson. Where was Usher, and Justin Timblerlake, again not so long ago, they understood the honor, to be asked to participate in such a prestigious honor of performing for the 30th Anniversary celebration of the King of Pop, which helped propel all of their careers, as that special was seen by over 40million viewers worldwide.
Fast forward to his peers, where was Berry Gordy,Diana Ros, Elizabeth Taylor, Maculey Culkin,Whitney Houston, Madonna, George Michael, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Patti Labelle, Barbara Streisand, Bruce Springsteen,Chris Tucker, Eddie Murphy, Oprah, Dick Clark Productions,Mary J Blidge,Brook Shields, Naomi Campbell, Beverly Johnson, Iman, the Sony Chairmen, Debbie Allen, Jeffrey Daniel and countless others. I didn't need to see Debra Lee, and other artists be so damn self-aggrandizing. In the coming months, 'they' will have their chance to honor Michael Jackson, and begrudgingly it will be done CORRECTLY. We as a culture are far too talented to accept mediocrity. I'm so ashamed to have witnessed this train wreck. The tribute seemed more like a tribute to a WWF Smack down circus, than a deservedly tribute to a man who helped ANYONE and touch people all over the world. I'm so disgusted. Michael, we your core supporters believe that you deserve better.
If Janet Jackson can show up, to comfort his fans in her grief, BET couldn't you have done your part. A simple twenty minute montage would've been a more befitting honor than what I witnessed. Black Entertainment Television....STEP YOUR GAME UP!!!

Never Ever Be Another/TGIF
Effervescent, one of kind,timeless,master,brilliance.......Never Ever Be Another!!
Every now and then a person comes along and enriches and touches our lives in ways we can never imagine. Someone who transcends color lines, a global superstar, where language barriers cease. The world witnessed magic every time this artist took to the stage. No one can ever deny what the record books have already charted; Thriller, the best selling release of ALL time; 8 Grammies awards in one night; Motown 25 when he debuted 'Billie Jean', doing his infamous moonwalk.
Growing up I was always entertained by the two families in musical culture, the Jackson Five and the Osmond family. Two lead singers stood out, Michael and Donny. Ironically they were not the oldest in their families, but closer to the youngest. Both had the 'it' factor.
Part of who I am, and what moves me, is largely due to having the luxury of growing up in an era of LP's like 'Destiny', 'Dancing Machine','The Jacksons' 'Goin Places', 'Triumph', 'Off The Wall', 'Thriller'.....The voice was pure silk. The smile could light up the darkest of rooms...and yes I tried to rock the afro too. Lastly, who could forget the dance moves....all the many, many, many dance electric, lubricated moves, that Michael Jackson did with such ease. He inspired an entire UNIVERSE to celebrate and love one another. Forever a child like a modern day Peter Pan. He believed in love, he supported so many charitable organizations. From little kids to adults he immersed us all. Michael was something rare, exquisite, and often times fragile.
Whatever your opinion, the fact remains: you could never deny his STAR, CELEBRITY, ICON, MASTERY, HUMANITARIAN, FATHER, SON, BROTHER and FRIEND!! Talk to anyone, young and old, everyone has a Michael Jackson story. He appealed to the child in all of us. He taught us how to moonwalk. Who could deny the famous penny loafers and white glitter glove.
His greatness came into the world, to educate, witness and comfort. Michael's music was the absolute pinnacle of greatness for others to aspire to. Without him, there would be no MTV, BET, Video, Concept Videos, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Jonas Brothers, Britney Spears, New Edition, Backstreet Boys, Rahsaan Patterson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Kanye West, Maxwell, Bobby Brown, Ricky Martin, Beyonce, chris Brown, NSync, John Legend, Lauryn Hill,Black Eyed Peas, Ciara and many more...They were all inspired by Michael Jackson.
We get attached to people and things that take us away to easier places. The world is saddened by the loss of Michael Jackson, here for such a short time, yet so much accomplished, so much to remember and relish in. So poignant a figure to remember. Yesterday America was glued to their televisions, to the Internet, to their radio, all in disbelief that our father, son, brother, friend, humanitarian and icon's life had come to an end. Much anticipation was put on his 50 date tour that he was about to embark on through Europe......'we', who are the world was anxiously awaiting the next chapter of what he had to offer. He rewrote the musical history books, with so much more vigor still to offer, we are numb with disbelief.
Michael Jackson, aka King of Pop, may your soul finally be at complete rest. Wishing you a peaceful journey, take your bow and one last round of applause for a job so very well done.
P.S. Sending special prayers out to Katherine, Joseph and the entire Jackson family. May God bless us all.

R.I.P. Michael Jackson - KING OF POP
I loved Michael Jackson, his music shaped my childhood. Damn Damn Damn, I'm 'still' in shock. His catalog of music, was the brother, that I never had. I can never remember a day when Michael Jackson's music didnt help to shape my tapestry. The world has lost a legendary artist....
Wishing your soul peace once and for all. I will miss you always.

D'Angelo, Raphael Saddiq, Ali Shaheed and ?uestlove....doing it up big. So much talent, this was a rare moment in time. All artists featured were hungry with something to prove. Their ego's were checked at the door. Such a unique moment.
Pot calling the kettle black...
Okay let's clarify. Gossip scum Perez Hilton, who is a obvious homosexual, called belittled Fergie and called Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas a homosexual. I find it very odd, that Perez Hilton would pull this card. A few weeks ago, he went into cardiac arrest because, then Miss California Carrie Prejean said that she didn't believe in same sex marriage. If you're gay, isn't it wrong to use such derogatory words to reference another? I think Perez Hilton continues to show his true colors. It's basically misery loves company. You write trash, you end up with a fist in your mouth. A situation that could have been avoided. Across the board the name calling needs to cease, we're not in elementary school. This entertainment industry should reward talent, fly by night wannabe paparazzi types, should not be rewarded for having no life. Basically living life vicariously through artists who worked hard to achieve their status. This same type of behavior is what killed Princess Diana. Know when to say when, and have your limits.
Perez Hilton, maybe this will teach your a lesson in name calling and human decency. Just because you choose to be vicious and miserable in gay homo celebrity, doesn't mean everyone will agree with your taking cheap shots at other's experience, just
for press. This type of behavior leads me to believe that maybe you're unhappy that you're a homosexual.

Chris Brown Pleads Guilty...
There's always two sides to every story. Of course everyone under the sun has their own opinion. How ironic of the world to pitch tent on someone else front porch. This is a wake up call for everyone. Handle your business and better still, mind your own business. Chris Brown has plead guilty. Now let the healing begin for all parties concerned.
The R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles court on Monday to one count of felony assault on the pop star Rihanna, The Associated Press reported. Mark Geragos, a lawyer for Mr. Brown, said that under the terms of the plea deal, Mr. Brown would receive five years of supervised probation and six months of community labor. Mr. Brown would be allowed to complete his community service in his home state of Virginia but would have to return to California for updates every three months.
The judge also imposed a stay-away order, requiring that Mr. Brown and Rihanna stay at least 50 yards from each other, except at industry events when the distance is reduced to 10 yards. Rihanna was told that she would be held in violation of the order if she gets closer to Mr. Brown than its terms allow. As the plot thickens Rihanna has requested that stay away clause be removed. VERY INTERESTING.

Dreams/TGIF
Hello everyone,
Congratulations goes out to the Lakers, not my vision, but Los Angeles did their thing. No doubt they were the better team at this year's championships.
A recent tragic death, has me in deep thoughts about life and impact. Mrs. Johnson continues to hang in there thankfully. How ironic life can be. A 20 year old kid in the prime of his life taken out by unnecessary violence. A hospice terminally ill patient survives to see another day. A no'brainer would say that a 20 year old chances would be greater, than the terminally ill .
Another example singer Natalie Cole was in dire need of a kidney transplant. Her sister Carol in perfect health, hasn't seen a Doctor in thirty years, goes to get a check up. She finds out that she has lung cancer. Her doctor wanted her to start chemotherapy treatments immediately. A week later Natalie gets a called from her doctor, a donor has been found. During Natalie's surgery her sister Carol passes away.
Moments like this takes your breath away, and leave you dumbfounded, which are not things we should relish in, yet it does make you wonder about the meaning of it all. I say this time and time again, no one comes into this world to stay. Why is it so hard to accept when the end of life happens? I've always been told and taught to believe that we're passing through this life to get to a greater place. I'm a believer. Some days I still have questions.
Solace can be a comforting place. Sleeping is always easier to do than deal with the crazy of life and day to day stresses. Sleep can bring you to beautiful places. Dreams are great short stories, and escapism. How often have you had a dream in your sleep that played out in real life, exactly the way your dreamt it?
Fulfill your dreams and bask in the moments, that you are afforded. Looking at the glass has full as oppose to half empty, sounds good in spirit...but today I'm pissed off, and my understanding is NOT good. I opt to lift the glass in memory of my friend...that his soul will finally be at rest.
What are you doing with your life?
P.S. Pop Superstar Whitney Houston 'Undefeated' CD will be released September 1-2009.

Purpose/TGIF
Summer Fun' Summer Sun...
Happy Friday .....
Overcast California skies, have graced me this week. All in all, it's my favorite weather, and so appropriate for my week, and my mood and temperament of late.
No reason to be inundated by life, because like it or not, it continues. That's how the wheels roll.
Happy days, seem less eventful, than the sad days. All monumental...in the 'present'....which helps you to genuflect when you're conflicted by impasse.
I think about all the plans we make in life, when the plans fall through, Do we ever address the 'reason' it didn't happen. Feeble excuses will always comfort you. The realization of people, is you will be the same person inside your heart today, twenty years from now. The shell will be different, that's a given. Testament of a valued life is when you've truly challenged your being to the core without limitations.
Never taking for granted what you think you're owed. We come into this world bare with nothing. As we coast along we get attached to things, that really aren't ours to keep. The course is never steady. I was suppose to be a writer, a singer, a producer, a father of two...and so many other things. So what happened? Good question. For a while I got complacent. Its like I felt that the world owed me something, and I'm sure we've all have similar experiences. So it's time to STOP letting things slip by. I'm mean 'really'. Stop making excuses for not to being at your best, and giving you best.
The world seems to be losing it's course, more and more people are dying, a life paused, seems very unfair and incomplete. What are we suppose to learn, are we here to set examples for younger generations? Truth be told, examples can be taught and shared with anyone. When you think of the laws of nature, the purpose set forth, is because of .......
This life is a gift, it's not your right, it's your privilege!
What are you doing with your life?
Warm regards,
P.S. R.I.P. Gasper Plummer ..a young life taken....a Journey Interrupted. You will never be forgotten.

A great performance, from a timeless performer. Very underrated but never forgotten. I think with the right packages and marketing, and less ego, Terrence Trent D'arby couldve become a superstar. He had the goods, somewhere along the way, Sony records dropped the ball. In this clip, the core essence of the man, is captured here.

ICON
Lonette Mckee was born July 22 - 1954 in Detroit Michigan. She came into prominence with the movie 'Sparkle' which theme dealt with a girl singing group, which loosely paved the way for the broadway version or Dreamgirls and the full length feature film. Staying vital in the entertainment business isn't a easy thing to do. You constantly have to keep reinventing yourself to make your presence known. Lonette has played many different characters. Some of her credits include 'Which Way is Up', 'Cotton Club','Jungle Fever' just to name a few, with a career that spans over thirty years. Lonette is a triple threat, she sings, she acts, and she produces.
She is an avid animal lover with a particular ability to intuit and communicate with birds. Lonette loves all animals and has a profound respect and love for all nature.
She was ranked in People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 1995.
Whatever stories Lonette has to sing or tell about. You can best believe that the world will readily welcome her with great latitude. ICON is not a word that we throw around, nor do we take it lightly. When you've open doors for other's to enter. When you've fought for equality until you can't fight no more. When you get up again, after being knocked down again. When the world tells you that you're not white enough, and your African American community tells you that you're not dark enough, and when you find yourself 'still' in the game fighting the most precious fight for your artistry. At the end of the day, you must say...JOB WELL DONE!!!

It's Alright/TGIF
Friday, Friday, Friday,
Yaaay...this week I really needed to get to this day.
I'm been through the emotional roller coaster with turbulence, bumps and peaks.
This week,Ive witnessed two seizures in one day, observed my mother's passing day,and got great Whitney news, suddenly things seemed leveled.
How do you know when to walk away from a situation? When it drains the core of your being? What does tough love really mean? When should it be given or taken away. Are you a enabler? All this week, in my world, these questions kept coming to the forefront. Should you concern yourself with matter's that don't directly concern you?
I've always said that the twenty something years are the easiest, you're young carefree, silly, and coasting through life. Everyone in your family unit, is generally alive and well. Then the thirties comes along, and force you to start growing up, and making life choices. Your own immortality starts to creep in too, as you start to lose some of the family matriarch's, the foundation starts to lose momentum.
Through it all, we get no more than we can handle. Strength comes from presumed unreachable places. Challenge, struggle, and oh yes the 'road blocks' will always exist, lately they seem to come more and more. Everyone talks about challenges in their lives. On one hand you're glad to know that you're not experiencing it alone. In a perfect world, we could take turns with struggle, when you're weak, maybe that next shoulder will be of fearsome strength.
Think through your situation, as oppose to making rash decisions, one in which you will regret, and ultimately, may not recover from. I try to think through things with much evaluation. I had a conversation recently where someone didn't understand, why I didn't apologize about a certain situation. As I reviewed the matter, I didn't apologize, because I wasn't sorry. Mainly I didn't understand what the expectation was. Doesn't make me a bad guy, and really in those type situations, more and more communication, continues to be the irreconcilable difference.

Command Performance
Lisa Fischer here performs, her Grammy award winning song 'How Can I Ease The Pain'. She was a very present background singer for the late great Luther Vandross, she went on to tour extensively with the Rolling Stones. Unfortunately she only recorded one CD. Her voice is pitch perfect. This song was the backdrop for many lovemaking sessions and is a quiet storm favorite.

The Spirit of Youth!!
I found this to be very innocent, charming and irresistible. If YouTube existed when I was a kid, no telling how many videos would be in my library. Aww, the life of youth, they are doing their thing, and fully on the money. Also one of them is related to me, so that doesn't hurt either:) Enjoy!!!
And the bidding war heats up for Drake!!
Actor,Writer,Singer,Rapper Drake's Major Label Bidding War Heats Up, Universal Signing Likely.
While there are as many as three major labels battling it out to sign Drake, the Toronto-born MC signed to Lil Wayne's Young Money label is close to signing a deal with Universal Motown, a source close to the negotiations confirms.
Sources say three majors are in possibly "one of the biggest bidding wars ever" in hopes of signing Drake, including Universal Motown and Atlantic Records. The presence of Warner Music Group's CEO Lyor Cohen and COO Julie Greenwald at Drake's recent New York show further intensified the speculation that WMG was making a serious play.
"Drake is very talented," rapper Bun B, who collaborated with Drake on his popular mixtape "So Far Gone," told Billboard.com this week. "There's a difference between trying to be an artist and being one. Drake has the confidence to go very far and the chance to make history."
Although another source says Universal is the closest to snagging Drake, especially given the already established relationship between Cash Money/Young Money and the label, another label has allegedly offered $2 million dollars up front in order to further persuade the young artist to join its roster instead.
"Just know that whatever label we sign to it'll be because they'll add to what we've created on our own," Drake, who offers no clues about which label he'll choose to sign with, told Billboard.com last month. "I am very happy in my situation now, which is signed to Cortez [Bryant] and Gee Roberson at Young Money and management through 'Hip Hop Since 1978.' The most important thing for me is being around my team - they are stronger than any label."

ICON
Born May 22-1970, Naomi Campbell entered the universe kicking and screaming and has been a trail blazer ever since.
Naomi studied at the London Academy For Performing Arts, and was discovered at age 15.
The first black female model on the cover of French Vogue,British Vogue, and Time Magazine. She, along with Elle Macpherson and Claudia Schiffer, opened the "Fashion Cafe" in New York. Chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world. [1991]
A graduate of the Italia Conti Academy stage school, Campbell's first appearance to a wider public was in February 1978 when she was cast as a pupil to appear in a music video with Bob Marley for his song Is This Love?. In 1982, she appeared in another music video, this time as a tap dancer for Culture Club's "I'll Tumble 4 Ya".
On graduating from Italia Conti, her looks created her an income & she switched to become a full time model, creating a high profile career & creating two spin-off companies: NC Connect & a self-named line of perfumes.
Her charity work mainly focuses on the children & people of Africa, including working with Nelson Mandela, since 1997. In 2005 she helped to create & participate in 'Fashion Relief' for Hurricane Katrina victims, raising over a million dollars
Say what you want, Naomi Campbell has been at the top of the modeling game for over twenty years. She's a flawless beauty. Often misunderstood, but you can't deny her staying power. It's almost unheard of, that a model almost 40, while still looking to be in her twenties, is still one of the most sought out creatures of our time. No one ever speaks about humanitarian efforts, guess that's shows too much of a human element. A ICON is someone who doesn't mind going through the fire. Taking the heat, and STILL having an opinion about what direction to take their life. Naomi has battled and won time and time again, standing firming planted on those two gorgeous feet, that has graced the catwalks from Milan to New York, and all points in between. I can say this with all the conviction in the world, she's a LEGEND!!
