Flashback Who's That ....

Though he would never care to admit it, singer Eric Benet's demise and career suicide was marrying and divorcing Halle Berry who is viewed as an American sweetheart.  The same fate that legendary singer Lionel Richie met with, when he got caught cheating on his ex-wife Brenda Richie.

After a failed cd with his sister in the group called 'Benet', he signed with Warner Bros. Records, in 1994 releasing his solo debut album, True to Myself in 1996. Which included the hit "Spiritual Thang" and "Femininity".  His next album, A Day in the Life, released in 1999. It featured "Georgy Porgy and "Spend My Life With You became a smash hit and rose to #1 on the R&B charts, was certified gold.

His talent was never in question, actually everything was in place to make him a bonafide superstar, and he was on his way.  With two successful albums under his belt.  He was a part of the 'then' up and coming 'Neo' soul movement.  He was selling out tours with Erykah Badu.

Benet was married to Berry from 2001 - 2005.  During that time it was noted that his infidelity and sex addiction destroyed the marriage.  Berry went on the Optah Winfrey and did not paint a pretty picture of her marriage to Benet.
Due to the controversy about music style and creative freedom, Benét changed labels to Reprise Records and recorded his next album, Hurricane. was released in June 2005.  "I Wanna Be Loved" was the song that received the most airplay, but it was clear that America had sided with Berry, 'Hurricane' tanked on the charts.  Eric Benet has released three CD's since 'Hurricane' and tours, but is not the big ticket draw that he once was.
