Making Strides ...

Recently single, actor Charles Michael Davis was in a relationship with choreographer and model Katrina Amato. However, in a September 19, 2014 episode of the CBS talk show, The Talk, he disclosed that he is "newly single".

Davis is of African American and Filipino descent. His father is from Kentucky and his mother is from Manila.

Davis got his start with Jake Lang at Wings Model Management in Cincinnati, Ohio and later attended the talent agency Actors, Models, and Talent for Christ (AMTC) event.  Davis has done print modeling and commercials for Nike and FootLocker.

Davis has had guest and recurring appearances in several notable television shows, including That's So RavenSwitched at Birth, and Grey's Anatomy. In 2011, he landed a recurring role on BET's The Game as Kwan Kirkland, a quarterback for the San Diego Sabers.

In February 2013, it was announced that Davis was cast in a lead role onThe CW's new show The Originals, a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries, centered on the Original Family as they move to New Orleans, where Davis' character (a vampire named Marcel) currently rules.

REFLECTION - Her voice made it so easy to love Whitney Houston. This performance from Fourth of July 1986. Poised with grace and elegance. She was happy, excited, invigorated and innocent. Long before Hollywood raped and tainted her. The vultures forgot her greatness and the love that she gifted us with, it was a Blessing from GOD. So many great performances from her, this ranks in my Top Ten. Her beauty, smile, style, heart AND voice will always be in the conversation. When we reflect back on the greats!!

Bonded Friends ...

MIAMI -- Dwyane Wade understands why fans were upset with LeBron James for abandoning the Heat in free agency but believes that the four-time league MVP should be met with gratitude when he returns Thursday with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Christmas Day showdown between the Cavaliers and Heat will mark the first time James returns to AmericanAirlines Arena since he opted out of his contract last season to rejoin the Cavaliers.

"It's going to be a mixture," Wade said of how he anticipates fans will respond to James. "How I think he should be received is a little bit different. The man helped take us to places we've only been once before he got here. So I think he should be received very well for that at the start of the game. And then, when the game [starts], then do what you've got to do."

The Heat plan to show a video tribute that highlights James' contributions to the most successful four-year run in franchise history. With James leading the way, the Heat became the first team in 30 years to make four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals. Miami won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013, with James winning regular-season and Finals MVP honors both seasons.

It's nice to see that the fellas didn't let 'sports' come between their friendship.  Both say that the bond between them are like brothers, who can depend on each another.

Comply/TGIF

Happy Holidays everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!!

If GOD brings it to you, he will surely bring you through it.  I was speaking with an associate last week.   Her gripe and complaint was that she was tired. and that things were so hard.  Trouble don't last always, hard times are real times, the breakthrough awaits.  Conflict brings angst, but it also brings conclusion.  In this Season of thanksgiving, gratitude is a spiritual food, the remnants are the fiber of our beings.  We're still here, still motivated, still eager, still yearning and forever optimistic!!   Its God's plan, and God's time, which isn't always easy to digest.

Every waking day Is a blessing, and tests certainly awaits.  Our world seems to be spiraling out of control, beliefs will be challenged.  Your faith must remain strong.  Good still exists, so does evil.   Everyone must seek, to heal and extend your hand.  To waver isn't an option.  We must be active participants in productivity.  As we approach Christmas, let us remember the joys and sorrows of the Season, the ebb and flow, are such mysteries to unfold.

Flashback Who's That:

Flashback Who's That:

"I'm just a bachelor, I'm lookin' for a partner / Someone who knows how to ride without even falling off" ...

Perfect bedroom words,
thats how Ginuwine burst onto the music scene.  His cronies were Aaliyah, Missy Elliott and Timbaland.  He mourned the loss of his parents, his father committed suicide and his mother died of cancer within a 18 month span. The 'Pony' singer struggled with grief and depression.   He was born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, better known, by his stage name Ginuwine.  An American singer-songwriter, dancer, rapper and actor.   He signed to Epic Records in the mid-1990s, Ginuwine has two multi-platinum albums. 1 platinum-selling album and 1 gold selling album, during 1990s and early 2000s.

In 2001 he endured the loss of singer and good friend Aaliyah.

He met rapper Sole', the couple married in 2003.  With Usher and Chris Brown on the scene to challenge his 'dance' throne, the hits stopped.  Seemingly he and producers Missy and Timbaland couldn't find their way back to each other.   During that time he switched labels, working with R.Kelly, didn't contain that Timbaland magic.

Today the father of 8 (two with Sole') sings with R&B singers Tyrese Gibson and Tank in a group called TGT.  Sadly he's in the middle of dissolving his decade long marriage and can be seen in the upcoming movie 'Chocolate City', which hits movie theaters in mid 2015.

Staying Power ...

Staying Power - Rock Soul is the movent of Fantasia Barrino.  Media loves looking into her personal life.  Say as they may, what can not be denied is her talent AND perservance. The American Idol is TEN plus years in the game AND she sings LIVE, no gimmicks.  When she takes to the stage, be prepared, she commits and owns it, thats what a professional entertainer does.   Her heroes are Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and Bessie Smith, clearly she came prePared to stay.  Fantasia quietly is the recipient of a Best R&B female award, and currently is touring the country and in the process of recording her fifth studio CD, which will drop in 2015.

Rebuke/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!!

The Universe never keeps us adrift regarding activities and relationships in our lives, that will be a detriment.  It has invested too much into you, to leave you in the dark.  Why second guess yourself; it is what it is, not what you hope it to be.
People will try to challenge your being, use your solitude to be at one with self.   Meditate on the things that you're at odds with in your life.  Be purposeful as your proceed to fulfill your goals.  Feed your soul and not your ego, we're here to do good and to honor our Heavenly Father.  Happiness is a state of mind, being at peace is priceless.

Persistence is what gets you there, consistency is the reward.   We fail when we try to please others.  Watch your emotions during the changing of the seasons, the body is more open to depression during this time.  Let's be aware and guard our spirit.  The Devil is always busy, rebuke him and rejoice in God.  When others feel the need to critique you, keep them guessing, by constantly evolving and elevating.  Power and greatness comes from diligence, stay on course!

Bevery Johnson ...

**** I have loved Beverly Johnson since I was 3 years old.  She told the story below to Vanity Fair and now Im more inclined to believe that something in the water isn't clean about one of 'our' television heroes.****

Like most Americans, I spent the 60s, 70s, and part of the 80s in awe of Bill Cosby and his total domination of popular culture. He was the first African American to star in a dramatic television series, I Spy, a show my family in Buffalo, New York, always watched. Cosby cut a striking figure on-screen then. He was funny, smart, and even elegant—all those wonderful things many white Americans didn’t associate with people of color. In fact, as I thought of going public with what follows, a voice in my head kept whispering, “Black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like you, an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.”

Imagine my joy in the mid-80s when an agent called to say Bill Cosby wanted me to audition for a role on the The Cosby Show. Cosby played an obstetrician, and he sometimes used models to portray pregnant women sitting in his office waiting room. It was a small part with one or two speaking lines at most, but I wanted in.

I was in the midst of an ugly custody battle for my only child. I needed a big break badly and appearing on The Cosby Show seemed like an excellent way of getting Hollywood’s attention. I’d appeared in one or two movies already, but my phone wasn’t exactly ringing off the hook with acting jobs.

Cosby’s handlers invited me to a taping of the show so I could get the lay of the land and an idea of what my role required. After the taping I met all the cast and then met with Cosby in his office to talk a bit about the hell I’d been through in my marriage. He appeared concerned and then asked what I wanted from my career going forward. He seemed genuinely interested in guiding me to the next level. I was on cloud nine.

I brought my daughter to the next taping I attended. Afterward, Cosby asked if I could meet him at his home that weekend to read for the part. My ex-husband had primary custody of my daughter at the time, and I usually spent my weekends with her. Cosby suggested I bring her along, which really reeled me in. He was the Jell-O Pudding man; like most kids, my daughter loved him. When my daughter and I visited Cosby’s New York brownstone, his staff served us a delicious brunch. Then he gave us a tour of the exceptional multi-level home.

Looking back, that first invite from Cosby to his home seems like part of a perfectly laid out plan, a way to make me feel secure with him at all times. It worked like a charm. Cosby suggested I come back to his house a few days later to read for the part. I agreed, and one late afternoon the following week I returned. His staff served a light dinner and Bill and I talked more about my plans for the future.

After the meal, we walked upstairs to a huge living area of his home that featured a massive bar. A huge brass espresso contraption took up half the counter. At the time, it seemed rare for someone to have such a machine in his home for personal use.

Cosby said he wanted to see how I handled various scenes, so he suggested that I pretend to be drunk. (When did a pregnant woman ever appear drunk on The Cosby Show? Probably never, but I went with it.)

As I readied myself to be the best drunk I could be, he offered me a cappuccino from the espresso machine. I told him I didn’t drink coffee that late in the afternoon because it made getting to sleep at night more difficult. He wouldn’t let it go. He insisted that his espresso machine was the best model on the market and promised I’d never tasted a cappuccino quite like this one.

Flashback Who's That ....

Though he would never care to admit it, singer Eric Benet's demise and career suicide was marrying and divorcing Halle Berry who is viewed as an American sweetheart.  The same fate that legendary singer Lionel Richie met with, when he got caught cheating on his ex-wife Brenda Richie.

After a failed cd with his sister in the group called 'Benet', he signed with Warner Bros. Records, in 1994 releasing his solo debut album, True to Myself in 1996. Which included the hit "Spiritual Thang" and "Femininity".  His next album, A Day in the Life, released in 1999. It featured "Georgy Porgy and "Spend My Life With You became a smash hit and rose to #1 on the R&B charts, was certified gold.

His talent was never in question, actually everything was in place to make him a bonafide superstar, and he was on his way.  With two successful albums under his belt.  He was a part of the 'then' up and coming 'Neo' soul movement.  He was selling out tours with Erykah Badu.

Benet was married to Berry from 2001 - 2005.  During that time it was noted that his infidelity and sex addiction destroyed the marriage.  Berry went on the Optah Winfrey and did not paint a pretty picture of her marriage to Benet.
Due to the controversy about music style and creative freedom, Benét changed labels to Reprise Records and recorded his next album, Hurricane. was released in June 2005.  "I Wanna Be Loved" was the song that received the most airplay, but it was clear that America had sided with Berry, 'Hurricane' tanked on the charts.  Eric Benet has released three CD's since 'Hurricane' and tours, but is not the big ticket draw that he once was.

Rest In Peace ...

Rest in Peace Winfred "Blue" Lovett, founding member and bass singer extraordinaire of the legendary vocal group The Manhattans. He was 74. For a half century, Lovett's songwriting and singing were integral parts of one of the most popular R&B groups in the world. His composition "Kiss and Say Goodbye," introduced by his deep spoken word prologue, is still one of the most beloved soul songs ever. And while many fans knew of Lovett's terrific vocal work, fewer knew of his impeccable songwriting instincts, often combining elements of love, loss and even infidelity into songs that moved the Manhattans to the A-List of vocal groups.  Lovett's death comes just a few days after the death of group co-founder Sonny Bivins, who maintained a version of the group in both good times and bad.

The Manhattans were formed in the early 60s in New Jersey as a quintet led by writer/bass vocalist Winfred "Blue" Lovett and emotive lead singer George Smith, along with Edward "Sonny" Bivins, Richard "Ricky" Taylor and Kenneth "Wally" Kelly.

Shackles/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!!

WAKE UP!!!! God is watching us, and he is crying.  Its a travesty with race relations, we killing our babies, and the mainstream doesn't seem to give a damn.  I say WAKE up!!!   The question of solidarity is out the window.  I ask the question 'Are We Our Brothers Keeper' and the response that I get, is silence.  Why are so many afraid to take a stand; its okay to walk against the grain.  Anger, sadness and disappointment is my current state of mind.

Some move in the opposite direction in which you are traveling, their mission could be similar, yet different.  Epiphanies are beautiful tools. We keep looking for the approval of the right way, which may never be a reality.  Keep your eyes open, because the enemy never sleeps.  Choose your steps decisively and execute with precision.

WAKE UP!!!!!!

TRUTH - Three Hundred years later, and very little change ... Its a scary reality. Caucasians rarely see themselves as racists, they rarely see situations as racist! We are constantly viewed as hostile, difficult, volatile ....
Its blatant disrespect, its disregard, and fully a cocky passive aggressiveness. How much more are we to accept? What the media and the masses focus on, is the word 'looting', really?????

Black mothers, what are you teaching and telling your children? Black fathers what are you instilling in your sons, what are teaching your children? Its 2014 do you know where your children are? Do they have a curfew?

The 'new' society tells us that we're not allowed to discipline our children i.e Adrain Peterson, but 'they' are allowed to kill our children, such an oxymoron. President Obama wants to pay for cameras, why? We see injustices filmed everyday, and we 'STILL' get a not guilty verdict and non-indictments constantly. Were we born to bow down? Thats not the belief that I signed up for.

Most choose to ignore, and stay in their 'safety' zone. TRUTH: it can happen to any of us. Watch your backs, and know your surroundings at ALL times. We ALL could really benefit, by taking a 'criminal justice' class. Often time they counting on our naïveté, to what our rights are ... Again I ask, what are we teaching our children? What do we tell them; when the world is constantly trying to convince them, that a black life doesn't matter?

Flashback Who's That ...

Words like Brilliant, troubled, trailblazer, controversial, talented and addiction are all words that define the late singing sensation Amy Jade Winehouse.  A life interrupted before it could fully begin.  Winehouse the Jewish singer stylist. showcased her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soulR&B, jazz and reggae, her vocal acrobats took us back to the days of singing greats Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin.  Amy only released two masterpieces before her death.  She won the 'Best New Artist' Grammy in 2008.

Through her sings like 'You Know Im No Good' and 'Rehab' it was no secret that the singer lived her life through her songs  and two things were constant was heartbreak and addiction.  Whats not widely known is the fact that Winehouse had been off of drugs for three years, which contradicts rumors that she died from drug relapse.  Winehouse was dealing with heartbreak from husband Blake Fielder.  According to her father Mitch, she spent the last two or three days of her life, consuming an awful lot of alcohol,” which happened and this has happened before. But over five weeks she hadn’t drunk. Unfortunately when things happened, she would drink enormous amounts of alcohol when she did drink.   Sorry to say the last time there was nobody there to take her to the hospital when she passed out. Cause of death was alcohol poisoning.
