Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!
If we were to walk backwards, could that possibly correct the wrong turns and mistakes that have set us back, in our lives? Or do we continue to move forward and take ownership of the manifestation that has been ordained for our life. 'Seek and ye shall find' we must press forward, the movement teaches that the days of a slacker are no longer an option. Address, absorb and proceed.  We have much work to do.  Somehow and someway, we must give more, we must do more.  The sacrifice will always be the greatest rewards.  Its no longer about what makes you happy, if you honor the Father, happiness blesses you.  In your weakest hour, a miracle happens, and sends despair on its way.  I walk in faith, its a belief that has come to comfort and secure me.
Chose to follow the direction that comes from deepest within you, it will never lead you astray. Thats is the level of your strength, its the part that has great poise and confidence. When 'Idle' we tend to get into a groove, a routine, not necessarily the best thing for us, its with fewest complications. Unfortunately that presumed luxury stagnates your truth, and can really grate on what was once, your ace in the hole.  Being open to suggestions is the ability to hear another's view point, when you listen without prejudice, even things you don't agree will prove worthy and beneficial.  Theory teaches that some will never understand your walk and point of view, when its unfamiliar, some tend to keep pressing, in hopes of swaying you into things that closely identifies their walk, but are afraid to step out on faith; for its easier to pounce on your parade.   Even failure is winning at something, its called taking a chance, whether its politically correct, or about your personal achievement, which just might boil down to being the one left standing alone.

Macklemore & Lewis

'Same Love', 'Equality' and 'Injustice'.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis must have a bullseye over it's head, with their 'Same Love' marriage ceremony performance at The Grammys had everyone in an uproar.  The damnation was allowing Madonna to perform but I digress.   If the argument is love and equality, isn't the best medium to present such an act; shouldnt the vehicle be music, arts, entertainment?   Music is suppose to cross color lines and boundaries.  We are all looking for something, and yes everything isnt for everyone.  The conversation piece is to broaden a social consciousness

The group seems to have been bombarded with negative press for the last few months for dominating a movement (Hip Hop) winning big at the American Music Awards and recently at The Grammys.  Understand its the machine that makes things happen 'not' the artist.  Their color is the argument, but however you spin it, their art and love for Hip Hop is real. Racism has existed within the Industry long before this duo got their start.  Back in the day, the Grammys were about pestige, statue, talent, acclaim, music theory and the talent showed up. Today NARAS(Grammy) merely wants to compete with the AMA's for ratings, so the establishment/machine feel its better dollars to award caucasians in an african american dominated field, also its a direct slap in the face.  The question and frustrations should not fall on the duo.  It starts with how we are represented and what 'we' allow.

Talented artist every year release music for their craft, for their blood, guts, sweat and  tears.  Some are never recognized.  Yes we can sit and play the unfair woe is me card, because it's relevant or we can rebuke the machine.  That conversation has to start with the Beyonce's, Kanye's, Outkasts, Ushers, Pharrells, Chris Brown's, Alicia Keys and The Drake's, the artist who 'the establishment' have allowed to break through the door, who have knocked down the barriers.  Unfortunately that conversation wont happen, because for one reason or another those artists are afraid to rattle the machine, thinking the issue doesn't apply to them.

So to fault Macklemore and Lewis is pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Each time those two gentleman have accepted their awards, the pair has always acknowledged whats unfair and unjust, in this industry, they defend the Jay Z's, Kendrick Lamar's.  Yes Kendricks loss was a travesty, but It does not lessen his talent.  (Im sure his focus wasn't to leave Compton,to make music, so he could win Grammys).  When the pair won in the Hip Hop category at the AMA's they addressed the unfairness, and hatred, about the senseless killing, of Trayvon Martin losing his life, and how absurd it was that George Zimmerman got off.  Notice everyone watched that verdict. Interestingly enough, not too many high profile caucasians expressed their dismay.   Macklemore/Lewis weren't concerned about political correctness.  In my opinion thats taking a stand, and getting the conversation started.  They could have given some syrupy acceptance speech, but they took the socially challenged road, which few seldom do.  When the duo won their Hip Hop award immediately they acknowledged Lamar, thats class in my eyes.

In closing, I think Macklemore and Ryan Lewis can school the Justin Timberlake's and Robin Thicke's of the world who rock their 'black' card when it suits their 'need' and 'not' their movement.

Flashback Who's That

Flashback Who's That Thursday:

In 1994. Marc Dorsey velvet vocals, came on the scene, singing a remake of The Stylistics 'People Make The World Go Round' on the 'Crooklyn' soundtrack and he seemed poised and on his way.   Unfortunately though he  nailed the remake his single was just a staple for quiet storm radio formats.  He next recordings was two songs on the 'Clockers' soundtrack, still no buzz was generated. In 1999 he released his 'Crave' debut on Jive records, where he covered 'Stevie Wonder's 'All I Do' and Donny Hathaway's 'In The Ghetto' both were solid covers perfectly fit for his baritone voice.  The lead single 'If You Really Want To Know' did nothing on the charts.  Jive didnt know what to do with Dorsey, how they should market the church boy, who was very similar to Johnny Gill.  Their frustrations led to them dropping him.  In 2002 he struck gold on LL Cool J's  'Love You Better' which went to #1 on both R&B and Hip Hop charts and peaked at #3 on the Pop charts.  Few ever realized the voice behind LL's monster single.  Marc's case is not so unique in terms of talented singers, who do not always find success, to match their talent.

My Thoughts ...

So Beyonce Knowles has won 17 Grammy Awards, Alison Krauss 27, Leontyne Price 19, Aretha 18, Ella Fitzgerald 13, Alicia Keys 12, Chaka Khan 10

Natalie Cole 9, Mary J. Blige 9,Barbara Streisand 8, Rihanna 8, Anita Baker 8, Madonna 7, Gladys Knight 7, Whitney 6, Toni Braxton 6, Janet 6, Mariah Carey 5, Dionne Warwick 5, Donna Summer 5, Celine Dion 5, Sade 4, Diana Ross 0,(excluding her lifetime achievement award).

Her 17 wins seem a little suspect, not denying her gift, but on some level I am.  Bare in mind  MJ the King of Pop won 13 and Elvis Presley won 3.  Seems like the word POLITICS jumps right off the page. Ijs

FINALLY Whitney LIVE!

Clive Davis talks Whitney Houston album. Davis typically has many irons in many fires. So even though he's holed up in an elegant Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow he's had at his disposal "forever" — fielding phone calls, e-mails and, yes, even faxes while organizing the annual pre-Grammy Awards bash he's again hosting at the Beverly Hilton Hotel — the veteran producer and record executive makes a point of talking about a project especially close to his heart: a Whitney Houston live album.

"Whitney never had a live album," he said. "I really want everyone to know ... exactly why during her time she was considered the greatest contemporary singer in the world.

It was two years ago, on the afternoon of his Grammy eve bash, that he and the rest of the world got the word that Houston died in the very hotel where the party was being held. "It's a revelation to hear her," he said, "but listening to her, the tragedy hits you again, so there are a lot of mixed emotions this brings up.

"I'm going through all these recordings of her performances now, many of which I wasn't at, such as when she was in South Africa," said Davis, 81, dressed business casual this week in a navy V-neck sweater over a white oxford shirt and tie. "It's a revelation: You really hear how astonishing and powerful and compelling she was in a way that wasn't captured on the studio albums or in her movie performances."

Davis said he expects the album to be released this year. He hinted that he might just preview it by playing a video clip for his industry audience on Saturday, which will be attended by heavy hitters from the entertainment industry including Metallica, Gladys Knight, Quincy Jones and Napster founder Sean Parker, to name a few.

Davis, Sony Music's chief creative officer, also has a new album in the works with Aretha Franklin. It's a skill he continues to exploit whether he's working with Franklin, a new album of duets between Carlos Santana and artists from the world of Latin pop and rock or the long-incubating Jennifer Hudson album, which Davis says will see the light of day this spring. (For the record I personally feel that Jennifer Hudson isn't in the league of Whitney Houston, and there's a reason, she was in the Top 7 on American Idol and not the winner. Something is drastically lacking. KK)

The big challenge for Davis and his colleagues in the record industry is finding ways to keep their business profitable while coming to grips with the ongoing digital revolution. Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" was the biggest-selling album of 2013, but it did so with fewer copies sold — 2.4 million — than any other bestselling album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking.

In addition to overseeing the many new albums in the works, Davis also continues working to stage a revival of Lerner and Loewe's classic musical "My Fair Lady."
"My plate is very full," he said. "It's a very exciting time." (courtesy of Randy Lewis)

Caveat/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It'

Endings can be the beginning of growth, and it can help give you another chance to rectify wrongs.  Chance is a hopeful word it's optimistic.  We can say what we will or wont tolerate, but actions speak the clearest truth .  We must intentionally seek out to attract things, situations, and people, all aide in our efforts for improvement.  Let us remember there is a reason why headlights concentrate on whats ahead, and not behind,  the past is now history.

Motives and hidden agendas will rear its ugly head, people eventually reveal themselves and its imperative that you pay attention.  The luxury of life is that eventually, the writing on the wall surfaces.  Maturity is the ability to walk away unabashedly.  Sometime you have to know when its time to let go.  Everything isn't for everyone, and that little 'caveat' will bring you the greatest rewards.  To leave it all behind will be the hardest task of your life, but ultimately its your life thats on the line.   Cutting toxic forces off from you, requires a constant dedication.  In death its a final goodbye, unlike someone who you have made a conscious decision to end associations with, that person can appear at anytime.  So stay true to your convictions.

Flashback Who's That ...

Flashback Who's That Thursdays:

Rapper Queen Pen came on the scene in 1997. She had all the ingredients to take the music industry by storm. Being an out of the closest lesbian, so there's the controversy angle, the marketing monies were there, a high profile video on all the video music outlets, super 'then' hot producer Teddy Riley. Having been the first artist to be signed to Riley's 'Lil Man' record label, all eyes were on her and paying attention. Her debut was laced with full on top notch production. The project though almost twenty years old STILL stands, and Is still in my constant rotation. It baffles the mind why this record didn't hit, it easily challenged the Hip Hop females like Eve, Foxy, Lil Kim, Trina, Brat, and Charli Baltimore. During my years working in the music industry, the failure or lack of interest to this project, still have me scratching my head. Take a listen to the link http://youtu.be/qVlVi-sm-2M

Heartbreaking ...

This story is devastating and gut wrenching.  I was so hoping and praying that young Avonte would be found alive, unfortunately that didn't happen.  I send prayers up for his family and as horrific as this story is, In my heart, I know that he's in heaven ... at peace. KK

Body parts found along the shore of the East River in Queens have been matched by DNA to Avonte Oquendo, the teen who went missing more than three months ago, according to the city's chief medical examiner.

The announcement was widely expected for several days, but it still devastated the family of Avonte Oquendo, who was 14 and had a form of autism that made it impossible for him to speak.

Avonte's mother, Vanessa Fontaine, was inconsolable, said her lawyer, David Perecman.

"Now that the inevitable, unfortunately, has occurred, undoubtedly she'll go through a metamorphosis of a sort, and I'm sure she'll get good and angry," he said. Perecman said the family intends to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the city, alleging that school officials failed to monitor the boy or call the police quickly enough when he left the school.

The flow of the East River, which is actually a tidal strait and not a river, changes direction with the tide, so it could have flowed from nearby Avonte's school to the place where the parts were found.

Perecman said the child was last seen on surveillance video in a park right along the water. But, he said, the teen is afraid of water and "doesn't like it." The family doesn't believe he would have voluntarily crossed a shoreline barrier.

Carmen Farina, the city's newly appointed education chancellor, said she was heartbroken.

"As chancellor, I am determined that we learn every lesson we can from this terrible tragedy and do everything in our power to prevent incidents like this from ever occurring again," she said.

The city's law department called the boy's death a tragedy and said its attorneys would review the lawsuit once it's filed.

Accountrement/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!

Its absolute that you apply your due diligence in getting all the accoutrements that are meant for.  That old way has failed you, time to say hello to new.   Start today in search of all that you're meant to be, not just for the moment but forevermore in the time that you are blessed to receive.   Contrary to what some might say, what is truly meant, will be.  Uncertainties are temporary moments of fear and doubt, that will pass.  Wanting more out of life means you have to do and give more.

Dare to be more in each moment.   Become the enemy of procrastination.  The  example has already been set, we are meant to follow a path in which will get us through the Heavenly gates to eternal life.  It starts with a simple thing called belief.  We teach what we know, but we reproduce who we are. God is your guide, your thoughts, actions, and desires should be in harmony.   When you are done with your earthly assignment, be comfortable in knowing that you are empty.   I wish you peace and love on this magnificent Friday.

Actor and comedian Wayne Brady will host the special. Performers will be announced at a later date.

So NOT excited!

So NOT excited about '12 Slaves' getting 9 Oscar nominations.  Hollywood love vehicles dealing with racism, stereotypes and oppression, which is why they regard movies like 'The Help, 'Precious', 'The Butler' and '12' as superior stories.  Don't you give into the madness.  While movies like 'Best Man Holiday, 'Fruitvale Station', 'Love Jones' or'Jumping The Broom' aren't included in their conversation of quality movie making.

'Butler', 'Slave', 'Maid' 'Pimp','N*gger', 'Ho', 'Bitch' or 'Animal' have never been names that I answered to.  Its time to take a stand for change. Ijs

FLOTUS responds ...

Hi, it’s Michelle.

Michelle Obama, Barack’s wife. Barack Obama, the President of the United States of America. That makes me the First Lady of the United States of America. Me = Michelle Obama.

I hope all is well.

You know, Kanye, I woke up this morning. In the White House. And one of my aides told me she had something to show me. Something that would make me laugh. A “cute” thing, if you will. It was a series of quotes, Kanye. About my husband and me. About my Vogue magazine cover. And fashion. And classism. They were your quotes. You were the cute thing, Kanye.

And my aide was right. It did make me laugh. Oh, what a hearty White House laugh it was. Tell me, Kanye, what’s your goal with this? Why us? Are you still mad about my husband calling you a jackass a few times? Is that why you’re focusing on me instead of on all the other women who have been on the cover of Vogue?
That’s what this is all about, isn’t it? You’re out here all mad simply because we’re stylin’ on you? I know Barack never did apologize for the name-calling, because you know how you men are with your stubbornness. But it’s more than that. It’s bigger than fashion. To you, this has become a couple vs. couple thing. I once overheard some of our summer interns talking about you — about how mad you get when you’re compared to other rappers, because your peers are Jesus and Jobs and Walt Disney. I heard it and actually respected that. It shows you have some drive to be a great man. You should fight to get your respect. I see my husband, the President of the Free World, get disrespected every day. And it tears me apart.

So you have to understand where I’m coming from when I say it’s laughable for my 21-year marriage to be mentioned on the same website as your thing with Kim. Imagine if someone compared you to Papoose, Kanye. Well, you’re Barack’s Papoose. And yes, Kim is my Remy Ma. My husband’s not moving our family out the country so you can’t see where we stay. Because he runs the country, you see. And, again, we live in the White House. Very visible.

Get On Up!!

Here's your first look (pictured above) at Chadwick Boseman incarnating James Brown for the upcoming Universal Pictures' biopic titled Get on Up, directed by The Help's Tate Taylor and produced by Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.

Universal has moved up the release date of its James Brown biopic to August 1, 2014, taking over the slot previously reserved for its 50 Shades Of Grey film adaptation. Get On Up will compete with Disney's wide release of its adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy on that August release weekend.

Get on Up, which promises a "warts and all" telling of Brown's life story on film, boasts an impressive cast which includes Jill Scott (one of Brown's wives), Dan AykroydViola Davis (Brown's mom),Octavia Spencer (Brown's aunt),  Lennie James (Brown's father), Nelsan Ellis (Bobby Byrd), Tika Sumpter (Yvonne Fair) and Keith Robinson.

Get on Up was penned by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, who wrote the script for Fair Game, which starred Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.

So far, I'm pleasantly surprised at the transformation, since some of us could hardly imagine Boseman in the lead role. It's only a first look however; we're definitely even more curious and really looking forward to seeing more, especially Boseman actually gettin' on up, from the ground up.

Getting Connected

Fifteen years ago America On Line (AOL) was all the rage.  Everyone was talking about.  They were killing ALL their competitors and we were 'getting Connected.  Technology continue to move ahead with or without us, from pagers, to Star Wars type cell phones.  Now we're using iPads, iPhones and tablets.   Landlines are almost mon existent.  We no longer have LIVE conversations, we are a texting world who lacks people interaction, we have become socially inept.   Newspapers and Magazine sales have drastically demenished, why because social media has cloned us into the gratification of instantaneous.  Our socirty thrives on 'right here, right now'.

Resolve/TGIF

Happy Friday Everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!

For every setback, God gives a comeback.  If you focus on the negative you're blocking yourself from the positives.  Doubt and self pity is toxic, its time to shed old layers, to rid the residue.   Its a new year, a new day and a new way to think on stagnant situations.   Rain falls on the' just and unjust' if your foundation is solid, storms will be weathered.  The forces that are for you, are greater than the ones against you.  Look up to the sky, and trust that good is there, and your name is already registered.  Double is coming your way, when you have put the preparation in, the luck comes when opportunity presents itself.  If you stay ready, the time will come.  Im a believer that GOD has a bigger plan and dream for us, than we ever dreamt for ourself.

If you accept and tolerate, it will persist.  We want adoration and often wonder, are we doing it right.  Who is your critic, who is the teacher?  You will only have to answer to one, that should be quite clear.  Move forward the negatives are behind, straight ahead and steadfast, the landing is clear.  The higher we climb the more that will be realized, if it was not meant for you, surely it would have passed you by.  We all have a calling, its up to you to figure it out, accept it, and proceed.  What once didnt make sense is now crystal clear.  The mission is to guide you into a flow of calm.

Missy Elliot is a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer.  A female trailblazer, in a male Industry of giants.
She got her start in a four girl singing group called SISTA, the group disbanded as they often do.  Thankfully that didnt detour her, under the direction of Sylvia Rhone her Record label executive. The two mad history together.  Elliot's debut CD sold over three million copies, which was unheard of for someone who didnt fit into the ideal weight, ideal look and ideal color.   Thats what made the victory even sweeter.   She and her producer Timbaland became the sought after duo to produce other artists, like Aaliyah and Ginuwine.  Missy has also had MAJOR successes producing on her own working with Beyonce' Knowles, Destiny's Child, 702, SWV, Lil Kim and Whitney Houston.  With over 20 years in the business, she continues to blaze trails and break new ground and currently is in the studios working on her forthcoming CD which will be released this year.

Two Kings ....

Happy Birthday Elvis Presley ....

Elvis Presley and R. Kelly born on the same day, two kings of music in their own right.  One LEGEND and one Legend in the making.  Both controversial in their approach with the same weakness ... Underage women.  Presley met his only wife Priscilla when she was fourteen years old, they dated and lived together for eight years, and then married.  R, Kelly met 15 year old, up and coming singer Aaliyah and were rumored to have dated, married and annuled. That story is now an Urban Legend.
Both men were well known players, who have been with a bevy of women across the country.  Equally complexed with sorted demons plagued both talented men.  One praised, the other shunned, but both guilty of the same crime.  It's easy to figure out why, the ruleshave always been different for ....  Hmmmm

Heavenly Father
I thank you for another day of life.  A chance to correct my wrongs of yesterday.  My mission is to be your humble servant, to honor you in all that I say and do.  You are my rock and my fortress.  Help me to be the best person that I can be.  Let my relationship continue to grow closer to you, as I am a vessel to spread your word.  Please honor me with favor, mercy and grace.  Guide and direct my path, protect me from hurt, harm, fear and danger.  I am an Angel to those who are in need of my help.  Watch over and Bless my family, friends and foes.  Remove any addictions and afflictions from my life.  For all the Blesses and for all the lessons on my life, I do give thanks.  Amen~
