My Thoughts ...

So Beyonce Knowles has won 17 Grammy Awards, Alison Krauss 27, Leontyne Price 19, Aretha 18, Ella Fitzgerald 13, Alicia Keys 12, Chaka Khan 10

Natalie Cole 9, Mary J. Blige 9,Barbara Streisand 8, Rihanna 8, Anita Baker 8, Madonna 7, Gladys Knight 7, Whitney 6, Toni Braxton 6, Janet 6, Mariah Carey 5, Dionne Warwick 5, Donna Summer 5, Celine Dion 5, Sade 4, Diana Ross 0,(excluding her lifetime achievement award).

Her 17 wins seem a little suspect, not denying her gift, but on some level I am.  Bare in mind  MJ the King of Pop won 13 and Elvis Presley won 3.  Seems like the word POLITICS jumps right off the page. Ijs

  5. We all know the Grammy ' s then and now is a popularity contest, not excluding the timeless talent that has won previously and here to date.. last point people were praising beyonce` performance as if it was ground breaking... I expected more and was left feeling..nevermind..

  6. Before we turn this post into a Beyonce bashing, (lol) I think these numbers need some context. The music industry is much thinner than it used to be with some of the greats. In many years where Beyonce won multiple Grammy's, it would be interesting to see what the competition was that year. Whether people like to acknowledge it or not, Beyonce is dominant in her genre, and there aren't many artists that can compete with her today. Whitney, Aretha, and others were out during times when talent was plentiful and competition was high. Just something to consider.

  7. Here we go... lol... I will admit it takes hard work to be Beyoncé. . She trains very hard... Beyoncé has and always had competition be honest she has the machine behind her and music companies do not market or throw money behind R&B artist anymore to ensure a more than successful product to generate a substantial return.. Also coupled with limiting the buyers to only specific artist by saturating the market with the artist music.. Forcing the consumer to be overtaken and accept what is being offered which is only one option at a time. At least back in the 80's and 90's we could choose now we are at the mercy of the music industry and what they want us to love.

  8. Lets be cleaar this is about Politics. Its Payola. I will first address that Im a fan of Beyonce Knowles, meaning that I own her product. Is she the best at whats out there hands down HELL no! Point blank period. Her songs are average at best. Now her 'Dangerously In Love' was stellar, she's fallen since then. Her voice isnt the best, and will never be in the conversation of the best instruments, i,e Whitney, Minnie, Mariah, Patti, Wynonna, Rachelle, Ledisi, Aretha, Christina, Gladys, Tamia, Chaka, Cyndi, Celine etc. When you listen to radio and hear Chris Brown, Drake, Rihanna. Beyonce every 30 minutes ... Its because the labels are greasing palms. Every year great artists come out, its up to us to go against the 'machine'. Unfortunately more followers than leaders. Lastly to compare Beyonce to Aretha or any of the greats is just ludicrous in my opinion. My second 'lastly' lol the Grammys use to be about prestige, mow its gmick and popularity ... But hey thats why we have the AMA's for gimmick NOT the Grammys. Ugh Diana Ross voice is on the level of Beyone'. -'and she did it FAR better than Beyonce' she was creativie had originalty AND crossed over EVERY market yet, she has 0 Grammys. Hmmm yeah my friends, something in thr water ain't clean.
Rihanna, K.Michelle, Chrisette Michelle, Melanie Fiona, Tamia , Renee Olstead, Janelle, Tamar Braxton, Ravaughn, Bridget Kelly, Estelle, Candace Glover, Ciara, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Christina Agulera, Ariana Grande are all her contemporaries .... Thats just off the top of my head. We must do the work.
