Queen Latifah shining Bright ...

Queen Latifah has landed a lead role in a music-themed television pilot created by Empire‘s Lee Daniels.
The series, previously titled Star, centers on three young women in Atlanta, Georgia, who form a girl group and are forced to navigate the challenging music business as their success grows.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Queen Latifah will portray Carlotta, “the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who boasts an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls—even though she doesn’t approve of their musical aspirations.”

Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady have also been cast in the pilot after a recent nationwide talent search.

Amiyah Scott, a transgender model who was rumored to have joined The Real Housewives of Atlanta earlier this year, will also reportedly star, according to TMZ. Variety reports that while Fox declined to comment on Scott’s addition, ‘insiders’ confirm she’s been cast.
