From Day One - Remembering

It was 1990 and a new singer had arrived on the scene named Mariah Carey, who at that time sounded an awful lot like Whitney Houston, and who had used the same producer Narada Michael Walden, and everyone was comparing her to Whitney Houston, who was at the time constantly getting flack for 'sounding' too white whatever that means.  Houston had started to let the public affect her musical direction, so she went to Clive Davis wanting to have a more urban direction for her next project which was entitled "I'm Your Baby Tonight" she hired the hot hit making team of L.A. Reid and Babyface along with Walden, Stevie WonderMichael Masser and Luther Vandross.  The first single was the thumping title track, and it was funky, it was 'urban'  and it was 'pop' enough, and the single went all the way to #1.  Her "Baby" project was the first one of her CD's that didn't go to #1 on the charts.  Arista started to get nervous in their decision for such an 'urban' project, so they released the Narada Michael Walden produced "All The Man That I Need" as their second single trying to make sure that 'pop' radio was still on board, and they were, that single went to #1 too.  Unfortunately at the end of the day, it was looked at as a disappointment, it sold around 4 million copies statewide and 12 million world wide, which by anyone else's standards it was a SUCCESS, but not for Whitney, she was held to a different decree.  Rumors was started to circulate wondering if the Houston success train had ended, was Carey the 'new' big thing, and then Houston sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Superbowl, followed by "The Bodyguard" soundtrack, and you know the rest!!LOL I'll say it again, she changed my life, and I shall never forget her greatness - EVER~
